Women
Women have been a part of the United States Post Office for many years. They have been
employed during wartime in the absence of men in the workforce, as far back as the Civil War.
The Vintage Photography Portfolio depicts their various roles as mothers, housewives and
women in the workforce.
Women have also been depicted in the mural art found in post offices throughout the country.
Stephen Mopope and Acee Blue Eagle depict them in their matriarchal roles which can be found
in the Native American Artist Portfolio.
